Why I am qualified to teach Family Life* |
I first began my training as a merit badge counselor for Family Life by assisting the Family Life merit badge councelor for our troop. Next I helped my 3 sons each earn their Family Life merit badge. Lastly, as a mother of 4, I have had a great deal of personal experience with "family life" I can share in teaching this merit badge.
I focus on what is a family and help the scouts see it's more than just Mom, Dad & kids. I guide them in developing ideas for both individual projects as well as family projects so they realize the projects do not have to be complicated just beneficial to the family. I also encourage group discussion regarding what it means to be a good citizen and father to help them grow into mature young men. |
Prerequisites for this Activity |
We are unable to complete the following sections of the Family Life merit badge in a classroom setting:
#3 - Prepare a list of chores and keep track of them for 90 days.
#4 - With pre-approval from your parent & merit badge counselor, carry out of project you would do around the home to benefit your family.
#5 - With pre-approval from your parent & merit badge counselor, carry out a project that involves participation from the entire family.
#6b - Carry out a family meeting
All of these requirements may be completed before merit badge day. Be sure you have approval from your troop's merit badge councelor and your scoutmaster. If your troop does not have a merit badge counselor you may contact me ahead of time for project approvals. |
